Is it really over? Has The Roger Troutman Inspired form of voice manipulation been Murdered, & Does Sean Carter have The Blood on His Hands? Most of you have probably heard the New JAY-Z single called Death of Auto Tune (D.O.A.). Since the emergence & financial success of Artist like T-Pain, a noted pantheon of Musician, some of whom can actually sing, have turned their voices over to Auto Tune. Consider by many to be nothing more then a cult fad of the times, Artist Like Jay-Z & Lupe Fiasco, to name a few, think Auto Tune has run it’s course. Or Has It? Multi-Platinum Artist/Produce Kanye West made a entire CD, “808 & Heart Breaks“, based on this form of voice manipulation which soared to the Pop, Hip Hop & Singles Charts, & Sold Over 450,000 units in the first week. Jaime Foxx’s New CD has gained much of it’s hype and anticipation due to his Auto Tune Based Single, “Blame It”. So while most of the Rap Game looks to copy it’s own success, I guess Only the Future will be able to tell us if this form of Melodic, Voice Manipulation, is Fad or Forever. One Thing can be certain, as long as it makes dollars it’s going to make sense for artist to keep churning out a lot more of the same. Stay Current on Everything Fresh by Following Diamond Crew. Unless you have been living under a rock for the last few months, any self-respecting hip-hop head has heard rumblings about the burgeoning hip-hop group, Slaughterhouse. The “supergroup” consists of emcees, Royce Da 5’9”, Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, and Joe Buddens. Where other supergroups may have faltered along the way, Slaughterhouse actually looks to capitalize on their buzz, with their self-titled debut album set for release on August 11, 2009 on E1 Music. Hip Hop fans have seen supergroups come and go throughout the years, with hardly in any product to show for it. Four Horseman or Golden State Warriors any one? Even Crooked I says, “ Slaughterhouse the successors to the Four Horseman”, on one of the group’s tracks, “Wack MC’s”. The four of them have had marginal success on their own, each with their own short brushes with major labels throughout their careers to no avail. Crooked I was on the infamous Death Row Records, a label that was a mere shell of itself after its early 90’s heyday. Joell Ortiz had a short stint on Aftermath Records, but like anyone that isn’t named Eminem or 50 Cent, was dropped like a bad habit. Royce Da 5’9” was at one time Eminem’s partner in rhyme, probably one of the only cats that could go bar for bar with Shady on a record. His friendship with arguably one of the biggest artists in the world did not do much to further his own career. Joe Buddens may have had the most success, having dropped his debut album on Def Jam Records and having a successful commercial single in “Pump it Up”. After the umpteenth pushback of the release of his sophomore album, “The Growth”, Jumpoff Joey was soon dropped from the label that was then manned by Jay-Z. These career setbacks are all documented on one of the group’s records, “Move On”. What they may have not been able to do own their own, they might be able to do as a collective. The group’s word of mouth, grassroots driven movement has grown from a mere buzz to a fever pitch. Call them the underground version of Drake, or the new generation’s Wu-Tang Clan. Slaughterhouse is the antithesis to all of the wack, autotuned, dance crazed, non-lyrical garbage that has bombarded the radio waves for the last few years. Ringtone rappers need to watch out when they come together like Voltron on August 11.
