If you don’t know who Alexander D.C.D. Smith is, he’s a crazy talented artist. Alex has been know to do things a little different and it work out pretty well. Creating his own artistic style, applications, and medium he has created a genre almost all of his own. Using wood panels, graffiti, stencils, drips and an visual pantheon of methods he has an amazing palette for what is ART. But to us he’s all that and a lot more. If you didn’t know, Alex has been gracious enough to have helped work on a few popular D.CREW projects. Alex was mad scientist behind Jesse Juarez’s “Choke Out” t-shirt. Alex even had a hand in the much beloved D.CREW logo. It was created by Jay Ward while at Alex’s studio/work space. But now we are proud to say that it has all culminated in one place, 12805 Venice Blvd. That is the space for Alex’s new Solo Art Show. The Show will be Open to the Public for the next 3 weeks. Well as many of you the Legendary Guru of Gang Starr passed this week. This week was my turn to pick the tracks for Throwback Friday. There was no way I could pick anyone other then Gang Starr this week. I grew up on it, Kopac grew up on it, Everyone on the D.CREW roster was touched by Gang Starr growing up as a kid. Many of you know that we were in Vegas this past weekend, celebrating a successful Fall Season. We All came back on such a high, but sadly found out that Guru had passed on the drive back to LA. We were deflated individually and as a company to say the least. But in the spirit of Guru we keep grindin’ & trying to showcase our best “Skillz” to the world. R.I.P. Keith Elam. You will be Deeply Missed
For the most part of this past year and a half D.CREW has been about making Fresh Tees. We have always felt that growing organically is a lot important then going hard in the short run and flaring out. But now we have a steady cult following. And 2010 is ALL about thanking all those fans. A lot of people have been asking Jay, Dc Sg, Tani, Kopac, Yoshi, Jenny & Everyone else in the D.CREW lab what we have planned for this summer. Some think maybe we’re not doing anything, some think we’re going to make only Skate Decks with the Introduction of D.CREW Skate, Some think that we have been a little absent on the blogs etc. because we have some huge things planned.
