My New York trip was amazing, but it brought a new appreciation for the beach. In my spontaneous planning of the trip I had not looked at the projected weather in NYC. They were in the middle of a heat wave with triple digit temperatures. Going to a claustrophobic concert and trying to look hot was impossible. Once I got off the plane I headed straight for Manhattan Beach, CA to recuperate and decompress.
Unfortunately, most of my bags were still in use with miscellaneous trip items. Luckily, I had happened to stop by D.C. HQ earlier to pick up my Alex Tote. I threw all the necessary beach items in the bag: towel, phone, magazine, sunscreen, and sunglasses. If I had stuffed all of that in my purse I would look like a tourist that had never been to a CA beach. Everything fit perfectly. I even hid a couple beers under the towel and everything stayed dry cause it was in its own compartment. I definitely found my new favorite carryall bag when my nightly chaos reaches critical mass.
Last week I took a trip to NYC to avoid the chaos of Carmageddon. To make sure I got to spend as much time as possible in the city I took the red-eye out of LAX.
The vibe of NYC is nothing like LA but I love it all the same. The city is filled with ambitious, well-dressed stock traders by day, and raging partiers by night. In the afternoon I lounged with the natives in Central Park trying to seek refuge from the summer heat. (Note: Never visit NYC when it is above 80 degrees)
At the corner of the park is the amazing Metropolitan Museum of Art. It has some of the most important pieces of artwork in the world inside. But I was only focused on the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition. It was a tribute to the genius of the late Haute Couture designer Alexander McQueen. Words cannot come close to describe the provocative and imaginative nature of the exhibition. I am hoping it comes to LA so I can see it again
After McQueen I headed over to Grand Central Station to take the subway to the dock of my Hudson River Cruise. It is one of the best ways to see the famous NYC skyline and was perfect way to end the day!
This past Sunday was one of those epic work Sundays where you had to take Monday off just to recover from it all. For those that didn’t know Sunday was part II of Diamond Crew’s summer 2011 photo shoot, the Last Days of Summer. The theme of the shoot was based around the fleeting last 6-8 weeks of summer that we all tend to embrace & cherish. When I first heard the idea that we were breaking up the Summer 2011 line in to 2 sections I had my reservations, but Jay was determined to see his vision through.
He wanted to embrace the two different sides of summer. The first 6 weeks where you embrace summer and enjoy that new sense of freedom and relaxation. And the last 6 weeks where you feel the days are coming closer and closer to an end and you squeeze summer for every last drop.
It was amazing to see it all come together. I really didn’t think that this unconventional approach was possible let alone would come together so amazingly. I think the clothes, the accessories, everything that Jay envisioned and created for this summer works so so well in the context of their respective themes. I think it’ll be a great second half of summer in 2011. Not to mention we had so much during the shoot and at the after party in West Hills, CA.
Here are all the behind the scenes from Diamond Crew’s Last Days of Summer photo shoot & after party. If you look closely you might even catch a couple of sneak peeks of the rest of the Summer 2011 line…
